Olympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius is free after posting A$109,000 in the case of his murdered girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.  The magistrate ordered Pistorius to surrender his passport and guns and stay away from the crime scene.

Magistrate Desmond Nair said there were a number of inconsistencies in Pistorius’ account of the Valentine’s Day killing.  Pistorius claimed he grabbed his gun and fired through the locked bathroom door thinking a burglar was inside.  The judge questioned why Pistorius wouldn’t bother to find out who was in there before shooting.

The prosecution maintains the shooting was deliberate and said witnesses heard the shooting following hours of loud arguing coming from the Pistorius home.

Under the terms of the bail, Pistorius will have to report to a police station twice a week and abstain from drinking alcohol.

The case is continued until June.
