Queen Elizabeth II has been discharged from the hospital where she had checked in for a night with a nasty case of gastroenteritis.  The 86 year old walked out of the front doors smiling.

Buckingham Palace had cleared her schedule after she started experiencing symptoms last week.  Trips to Wales and Rome have been put on the back burner.

Gastroenteritis can be a problem with elderly patients.  Although this inflammation of the stomach and intestines is often called “stomach flu”, the influenza virus does not cause Gastroenteritis.  The best treatment in this case was plenty of fluids and some rest.

Queen Elizabeth turns 87 years old next month.
