A piece of debris from America’s worst terrorist attack is found in a strange place, world leaders take a cautious approach to news of chemical weapons being used in the Syrian Civil War, and Russia is stepping backwards away from the progress taking root in the rest of the world.

Building surveyors in New York found the landing gear from one of the jets used in the 9/11 attacks.  It was wedged between two buildings in Lower Manhattan.  The surveyors hired by the owners of 51 Park Place immediately called the cops when the realized what was back there.  To this day, debris from that terrible day is still being found about lower Manhattan.  That address by the way, is the proposed “Park 51 Center”, or as conservative critics call it, “The Ground Zero Mosque”.

The mother of the Boston Bombing suspects was herself placed on a terrorism database along with her elder son about 18 months ago.  Zubeidat Tsarnaeva of Dagestan is a naturalized US citizen but she is unlikely to return to American to see her surviving son put on trial for murder and terrorist, as she faces shoplifting charges.  19-year old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was transferred to a federal prison hospital.  The older son Tamerlan died in a gun battle with police last week.

President Obama and British PM David Cameron separately expressed cautious tones about evidence of chemical weapons attacks by Syrian Government troops.  Despite the chest-beating from war hawks, neither leader appears to be in a great hurry to repeat the mistakes that went into the prelude to the Iraq War a decade ago.  But the US, UK, and Israel have all said this week that there is growing evidence that Syria used Sarin gas on rebel forces.

Israel says it will scrap the use of White Phosphorus shells, which is already severely restricted in war by international law.  Human Rights Watch and other groups say it caused “needless civilian deaths” during the Gaza war.  Israel claims it used the shells only to create a smokescreen, but people were killed and a UN compound burned down when struck with White Phosphorus.  If it touches human flesh, it burns right down to the bone.

38 patients at a psychiatric hospital near Moscow died when fire engulfed the facility.  It happened in the early morning hours when most were asleep.  The alarm functioned, but a duty nurse was only able to evacuate two patients because of the heavy smoke.  Authorities are determining if smoking caused the fire.

Russia appears to be readying another step in its growing oppression of LGBT people.  President Vladimir Putin says Russia should reject foreign adoptions of Russian orphans by same-sex couples.  This follows France, New Zealand, and Uruguay all legalizing Equality in marriage and adoptions.  Russia decriminalized homosexuality in 1993, but lately has been caving to orthodox religious pressure against the Gay community.

Garment workers in Bangladesh rioted in Dhaka, setting fire to at least two factories and smashing cars with bamboo poles, to protest the conditions under which they work.  At least 304 workers were killed when an 8-story building housing several sweatshops collapsed this week.  72-people were pulled alive, but hundreds were unaccounted for.
