Good Morning, from a possible victory in the War on Terror to getting swallowed by scary sinkholes to meatless pies.. Nothing goes with a healthy brekkie like a trip around the world of news.

One of al Qaida’s most wanted terrorist leaders in North Africa has been killed, although France is not confirming it yet.  But locals say Abdelhamid Abou Zeid was among 40 militants killed by a French air strike in the foothills of the Adrar des Ifoghas Mountains.  Abou Zeid is believed to have been behind the kidnappings and murders of British and French hostages; the destruction of historic Sufi shrines; and imposing draconian sharia law including amputations and murder.

China paraded four convicted killers in front TV cameras before taking them to the death chamber for lethal injection.  It’s a rare display, since China has largely abandoned the public denunciations that were so frequent back in the Mao days.  The four men, all foreigners from Southeast Asia and members of a notorious "Golden Triangle" drug gang, were convicted of murdering 13 Chinese Sailors on the Mekong River.

Eight South African cops are under arrest in the death of a can driver who was caught on cellphone video being handcuffed to the back of a police van and dragged.  27-year old cabbie Mido Macia was arrested for a parking violation, and within hours was dead of head injuries and internal bleeding. President Jacob Zuma called the incident "horrific" and "unacceptable", but Amnesty International says police brutality is becoming more commonplace in South Africa.

Venezuela is denying rumors that ailing President Hugo Chávez is dead or near death.  He was reportedly suffering a lung infection and had just returned from several rounds of cancer treatment in Havana, Cuba.  58-year old Socialist Chávez has been unable to attend his own inauguration.  Despite his serious illness most Venezuelans believe he will recover. Information Minister Ernesto Villegas accuses opponents of an "ultra-right" conspiracy to undermine the government and “upset the people”.

Horror in Florida:  A sinkhole opened up beneath a man’s bedroom in a home outside Tampa, apparently killing him.  Relatives heard him scream and got there in time to see his mattress disappearing down the hole.  Surrounding homes were evacuated, as officials believe the hole is 30-meters wide beneath the surface.

IKEA in Europe has stopped selling all minced meat products from its main supplier.  This comes after the discovery of horsemeat in its famed Swedish Meatballs.

A food company in Iceland is in trouble, but not because of horsemeat in its meat pies.  It’s because there is NO meat in its meat pies.  Food inspectors testing for horse DNA found the alleged Beef Pies were really made of some unspecified vegetable matter.  The case has been forwarded to prosecutors.
