As Islamic State attempts to carve a new Sunni fundamentalist Caliphate out of Iraq and Syria, the highest religious authority in the most-powerful Sunni nation is calling the group apostates and the “number one enemy of Islam”.

Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti Abdulaziz al-Sheikh says that terrorism has no place in Islam’s ideology, and Islamic State (IS) is carrying out terrorist acts on an unbelievable scale.  IS’s tens of thousands of fighters are accused of beheadings, crucifixions, forced amputations, and other atrocities.  In fact, it’s all documented pretty well in this Vice News documentary.

“Extremist and militant ideas and terrorism which spread decay on Earth, destroying human civilization, are not in any way part of Islam, but are enemy number one of Islam, and Muslims are their first victims,” said the Mufti, who one year ago urged Saudis not to travel to Syria to join the group.  Any preachers who encourages young Saudis to join IS are guilty of a “deviation among the youth” at their mosques, says al-Sheikh.

But whatever manpower the Saudis won’t provide, much of the rest of the world seems to be making up for.  Fighters have come from Australia, Europe, the UK, and elsewhere.  They’re creating a merciless theocracy – where women aren’t seen and children in the streets chant for the death of infidels.
