A man lionized on the Internet as “The Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker” has been arrested for killing a man.  The victim reportedly died of blunt force trauma.  Who could have seen this coming?  For some reason, America is shocked at this.

Philadelphia police apprehended 24-year old Caleb Lawrence McGillvary, known to his Internet fans as Kai the Hitchhiker, at a train station.  He had changed his appearance and was allegedly heading out of town.  McGillvary was shipped back to New Jersey to face charges in the murder of 73-year old attorney Joseph Galfy.

A dark hint to the alleged crime appeared in a posting on Kai’s Facebook page earlier this week, in which Kai suggested he’d been drugged and raped.  He asked his fans what they would do in such a situation.  One man calling himself Terry says he would beat the man with a hatchet to which Kai responds:  "i like your idea terry."

Galfry was found murdered in his home on 13 May.  Kai’s being held on $3 Million bond.

Why would this guy even have an Internet following?  Well.. He used to be the good guy.

Kai the Hitchhiker gained fame and several television appearances earlier this year for using his hatchet to stop a deadly attack in California.  A profanity-laced TV interview posted on YouTube featuring Kai’s circa 1990’s skater talk has surpassed 3.7 million hits.

His idiosyncratic behavior as a principal witness during the subsequent court hearing gained widespread attention, and an appearance on The Jimmy Kimmel Show.
