Spanish police arrested 25 people in several cities, busting up a human trafficking ring that brought women from Nigeria to work as prostitutes.  The gang was also on the ground floor of one of the oldest email scams on the Internet.

The women were lured from Lagos with promises of good jobs in Europe, only to be flown to Brazil or Mexico for false documents.  From there, they flew into Paris and then were smuggled south to cities across Spain and forced into prostitution.  From there, the women were sent to other countries as the gang expanded its operations.

At least five women were freed.  Police arrested one of the gang members in the process of performing an abortion on one of the women.

Police say the gang was formed more than 20 years ago in Nigerian universities and was also known for sending so-called Nigerian letters by email, asking recipients to send money.
