Spanish investigators have taken into custody the driver of the train that derailed, killing at least 80 people near the station in Santiago de Compostela.  This comes after CCTV footage of the wreck has emerged.

(WARNING: VIDEO MAY BE UPSETTING)

The video shows the train coming around the curve, apparently at twice the speed limit for that particular stretch of track.  The carriage behind engine appears to derail first, followed by the carriages behind it, and then a blast from the catenary line above it.  The engine slides sideways directly into the CCTV point of view.

The driver is identified in local media reports as 30-year veteran Francisco Jose Garzon Amo, and he is expected to face questioning by police on Thursday.  Right now, police are guarding him in his hospital room.  Unidentified sources claim he took the curve at 190 kilometers per hour, instead of the limit of 80 kp/h.

King Juan Carlos visited survivors in hospital  Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy viewed the crash site on Thursday, after coming under criticism for earlier tweeting his condolences.  The government has declared seven days of mourning for the victims.
