European nations are uneasy about revelations of US surveillance on phone and data communications and are seeking assurances that their citizens’ rights are not under attack by the American spy agencies.

European Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship Viviane Reding is scheduled to meet with America’s senior law enforcer, US Attorney General Eric Holder, on Friday. The US insists its snooping is legal under domestic law.

But the surveillance is does not and has not stopped at US borders.  And Europe has a reason to be concerned, according to a map of US spying going viral on the Internet.  It shows countries subject to the least spying activities are shaded green; those with the most are colored red.

Australia is apparently not terribly interesting to the US spymasters, the land down under is a comfortable, deep green.  But Germany is yellow and apparently of much greater interest to the NSA PRISM program.
