A Swiss tourist was gang raped in the latest example of sexual violence in India.  The 39-year old was on a cycling tour with her husband.  The two were camping near the town of Datia when they were attacked by a group of men.  In December, the country was outraged by the horrific gang rape of a 23-year old medical student who later died of her injuries.

A North Korean website is warning the South to evacuate its border islands.  It’s the latest escalation of rhetoric since the United Nations imposed new economic sanctions on the North because of its nuclear program.

There’s a mini-run on banks and ATM in Cyprus, with residents shocked at the terms of the European Union’s €10 Billion bailout.  Part of the deal is a one-time savings tax of 6 to 10 percent. People are getting their money out before they get charged for the sins of their leaders.

Thousands of refugees have fled the Darfur region of western Sudan and crossed into Chad, because of violence. The United Nations refugee agency was not expecting the sudden flow in the last few weeks.  At least 300,000 people have died in inter-ethnic fighting in Darfur since 2003.

Sri Lanka banned a British man from entering the country because of his tattoo of the Buddha.  Officials say the man expressed disrespectful attitudes towards the Buddha, and had he been allowed in his personal safety would have been at risk.

Organ banks across America are testing for Rabies after the death of a transplant patient in Maryland, just north of Washington, D.C.  Organ donations are normally tested for HIV and hepatitis in America, but not rabies.  Officials say 4 people caught rabies through organ transplants in America in recent years.

A top United Nations investigator says the American drone missile program against terrorists in Pakistan violates the South Asian nation’s sovereignty.  However, some analysts point to a former Prime Minister’s cable retrieved by WikiLeaks, which says Pakistani officials complain about drones in public but approve of them in private.

America’s richest man blames capitalism for failing the world’s health needs.  Malaria kills 6,000 people a day and sickens hundreds of millions more people.  But Bill Gates says there’s more money going to research a male baldness cure than to halt malaria because of “marketplace imperatives”.
