Police in Kiev say they’ve made arrests after a group of men viciously attacked a Ukrainian journalist known for her anti-government views, leaving her looking like she came out on the losing side of a MMA fight.  Fair warning, the pictures and video are pretty disturbing.

34-year-old Tetyana Chornovol had just published an article on Ukraine’s Interior Minister Vitaly Zakharchenko’s personal wealth and posh “country manor” outside the capital.  She has also been investigating the assets of several other political leaders.

Early on Christmas morning, a group of men in a Porsche Cayenne stopped her vehicle, dragged her from it, assaulted her, and left her in a ditch.  The chase was captured on her dashboard camera, and Ukraine’s opposition released it onto YouTube for the world to see.  She woke up in hospital with a badly swollen face, and will reportedly required at least two surgeries.

“According to the doctors she has concussion and head injuries,” said Oleksii Grytsenko, a friend of Tetyana Chornovol.  “She tried to run away, but they caught her, someone broke the window in her car and then beat her.  What happened next, Tetyana could not remember.  She regained consciousness in hospital.”

Government opponents quoted in Ukrainian media say they have identified the car used in the assault as belonging to the ruling party of President Viktor Yanukovych.
