Pope Francis waded out into the crowd before delivering his first Angelus from the window at the Vatican to a crowd of thousands.  The former Jorge Mario Bergoglio shook hands and kissed babies just outside Saint Anna’s Gate.

He said mass at the Vatican’s small parish church, keeping his homily to a brief 6 minutes.

Later, the window on the Pope’s studio was opened for the first time since Pontiff Emeritus Benedict XVI gave his final address last month.

Unlike his recent predecessors, Francis spoke only in Italian, ad-libbing much about God's power to forgive instead of reading from a written speech.  He opened his remarks with, “Good Day,” and wrapped them up with, “Have a nice lunch.”
