There are new concerns over the destruction of Turkey’s secular society, after a television hostess was sacked for wearing an outfit that revealed too much cleavage; It happened on the orders of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling Islamist party.

Here’s a link to video showing the outfit that Gozde Kansu wore on the popular TV show Veliaht.  Pretty much family friendly, right?  Doesn’t exactly bring forth imagery of Miley Cyrus twerking at Burning Man, does it?

After intervening against Gozde Kansu, Islamist party spokesman Huseyin Celik said, “We don’t intervene against anyone, but this is too much. It is unacceptable.”

Kansu condemned the ruling party for sticking its pious snout into her show, and blasted the producers’ spinelessness for bending to political pressure.

"Nobody wanted to go against the political will which attacked my low-cut dress," she said.  “If they didn't like my presentation, they would tell me because they have invested enormous amounts of money in this business.  They didn't tell me anything.  Whenever Celik spoke, things have changed.”

Earlier this week, PM Erdogan lifted the 90-year ban on women wearing Islamic headscarfs and men growing beards, symbols of Islamic piety, among civil services workers.  Erdogan’s authoritarian rule and lurches towards Islamism were components of the outrage that led to massive protests throughout the country in May, June, and July.
