Unrest is once again upsetting the streets of cities throughout Turkey, with a third night of disturbances following the death of an anti-government demonstrator earlier this week.

Hundreds turned out in Istanbul, Ankara, and the southern city of Hatay where the protester died.  They threw firecrackers and petrol bombs were thrown at police who responded with tear gas and water cannon.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the protesters and said no one had the right to disturb the peace.

22-year old Ahmet Atakan had recently graduated from accounting school.  He was killed Tuesday night in a fall off of a building during a clash between police and demonstrators.  Eyewitnesses say Atakan was hit in the head at short range by a tear gas canister fired from the turret of an armored vehicle, and lost his balance, plunging to the ground below.  Police say he fell on his own.  Atakan is at least the sixth person to die in this year’s pro-Democracy protests against the heavy-handed rule of Erdogan.
