South Africa is closing its doors to non-citizens traveling from the main countries affected by the West African Ebola Outbreak, Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone.  And Senegal is now suspending flights with those countries, as well as closing its border with Guinea.

South Africa has had two Ebola scares in recent weeks, involving passengers arriving from Liberia and Guinea.  But in each case, the patient test negative for Ebola, and the disease has not appeared region of the huge continent.  Citizens of South Africa who are coming back home from the Ebola countries will be allowed to re-enter, but they will be required to undergo strict health screening.

Cameroon and Ivory Coast already have travel bans.

Meanwhile, the two American missionaries who caught Ebola in Liberia and were airlifted to Atlanta for treatment have been released from hospital.  Dr. Kent Brantly told reporters at a news conference, “I am thrilled to be alive.”

Brantly and Nancy Writebol were both given an experimental drug ZMapp from Mapp Pharmaceuticals, and were said to have immediately improved after treatment.  So are three patients in Liberia who were given ZMapp.  But doctors are not crediting the drug in Brantly and Writebol’s recoveries, and Brantly didn’t mention it in the news conference.
