American authorities are warning US and International airlines with flights traveling to Russia for the Olympic Games to be on the lookout for toothpaste containers, which some intelligence indicates may actually hold ingredients that could be used to construct a bomb aboard a plane.

“While we are not aware of a specific threat to the homeland at this time, this routine communication is an important part of our commitment to making sure we meet that priority,” said an anonymous Homeland Security official quoted by the US ABC Network.  “As always, our security apparatus includes a number of measures, both seen and unseen, and DHS will continue to adjust security measures to fit an ever evolving threat environment.”

The US has also placed two warships in the Black Sea in case of a security breach during the games, scheduled to begin this week.  It comes after numerous threats from Islamist militants in the Caucasus region

Fears were raised with two suicide attacks in Volgograd in December.  To that end, Russia says security forces have killed a militant who may have helped train the two suicide bombers who struck the train station and commuter bus, killing 34 people.
