If you start to see a bunch of cell phones and computers on the online auctions sites, here’s why:  Burglars raided a Samsung electronics factory in Brazil, and made off with more than A$6 Million in electronic goodies from the world’s largest smartphone maker.

Police say this gang of 20 thieves was heavily armed.  They captured eight night shift workers on their way to the plant in Campinas in Sao Paulo state, stealing the workers’ IDs and taking two hostages. The other six were detained at another location so they couldn't warn the plant or authorities.

“They subdued the guards, took their weapons and their ammunition and told them to continue working as if nothing had happened,” said police Lieutenant Vitor Chaves.

From there, investigators say the gang mobilized seven to ten trucks to make off with 40,000 completed products.  They knew their way around and how to get it out.  Samsung says insurance will cover its losses.

“It is regrettable the incident took place.  However, it is fortunate that there were no casualties,” read a statement from the South Korean electronics giant Samsung.  “The police are currently investigating the incident, and we will fully cooperate with the police authorities and will make utmost efforts to resolve this issue.”
