Israel’s government hastily called a meeting of the nation’s news organizations to ask they quash a story that would be “very embarrassing to a certain government agency,’’ according to the Israeli newspaper “Haaretz”.  The story is thought to center on the suicide of “Prisoner X” in an Israeli prison cell.  Some media outlets identify Prisoner X as an Australian man from Melbourne.

34-year old Ben Zygier reportedly used the name Ben Alon in his work for Israel’s Spy Agency Mossad.  But for reasons unknown, Zygier was arrested by his employer and kept incommunicado in a high security facility where he was found hanged in his cell in 2010.  The broadcast reports in Prisoner X said that security was so tight, not even the guards were told the prisoner’s name.

Israeli’s Liberal and Left politicians are criticizing the government of Benjamin Netanyahu over the matter, saying the Press Censorship has absolutely no place in a Democracy.  Lawmaker Nahman Shaithat of the Centre-Left Kadima Party notes that secrets aren’t always kept forever, and sooner or later the truth will come out, and therefore it is better to tell the public the truth, within the confines of security.”
