Pro-European forces appear to have won the day in European Parliament elections, even if the main center-right and center-Left groupings saw their blocs shrink.  The far-right didn't do anywhere near as well as the corporate media predicted, but will have a stronger voice.  Manfred Weber - leader of the EPP center-right bloc in the European Parliament and considered the likely successor to European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker - said, "We will not work together with those who want to work against Europe, with those who want to destroy Europe," adding, "We will defend this Europe against the nationalists."  Newer parties and single-issue parties also flourished at the expense of the old center.

But the big surprise is The Greens making major gains in Germany and the most-advanced economies of the European Union.  The Greens doubled their share of the vote because of increasing concerns of Global Warming and air pollution so bad in some cities that officials have to institute driving bans.  Simultaneously, Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats got fewer seats than it did in 2017 - and that was considered a disaster for them.

In France, The Greens came in third place for the first time, leapfrogging the traditional center-right Republicans (of former president Nikolas Sarkozy) and Socialists (of former president Francois Hollande).  Just like in 2017, Marine Le Pen's far-right National Rally (formerly the National Front) came out on top, but actually lost a seat.  President Emmanuel Macron's ruling center-right party is in second place, only one seat the top spot in its first EU election.

Italy has yet to announce its results as of this writing.

Germany's top anti-Semitism official is warning Jews not to wear skullcaps - known as kippas or yarmulkes - in public in some areas because of rising anti-Semitism.  Felix Klein blames "the lifting of inhibitions and the uncouthness", suggesting the far-right.  Israeli President Reuven Rivlin said he's shocked by the revelation which he says is "an admittance that, again, Jews are not safe on German soil".

The Republic of Ireland continues its great march towards the Left and laws more in tune with modern times.  Election officials on Sunday announced that voters approved Friday's referendum to liberalize divorce laws with a 82.1 percent majority.  Ireland has ditched its restrictions on Women's Reproductive Rights and legalized Marriage Equality for LGBTQ people, stripping away the repressive past when the country was dominated by the Roman Catholic Church.

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Peter O'Neill is resigning after seven years, saying that recent moves in parliament indicate a need for change.  He plans to hand the reigns to Julius Chan, who was PM twice before.  But opposition leader Patrick Pruaitch says he's got the majority of seats in Parliament, and he'll form the next government.

Police in Arizona arrested Keya Morgan, former business manager for Marvel Comics's legend Stan Lee, after Los Angeles prosecutors filed elder abuse charges earlier this month.  Morgan is accused of theft, embezzlement, forgery, and fraud for pocketing $378,000 from Lee's autograph sessions; authorities also added false imprisonment charges for taking Lee from his mansion to Morgan's condominium to exert more influence over him.  Lee's family eventually got a restraining order again Morgan before Lee died last year at age 95.
