Turkey’s ruling AKP Party has lost its parliamentary majority, meaning that autocratic President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will not be able to push legislation to consolidate power in his office.  Once confirmed, it ends the AKP Party’s 13-year single party rule.  The big winner and obstacle in Erdogan’s way is the Leftist and largely Kurdish HDP Party, which passed the 10 percent threshold with its message of equality, gay rights and environmental concerns.

The second day of the G7 summit in the Bavarian Alps will concentrate on what to do about Islamic State, particularly about drying up the terrorist group’s sources of funding.  The first day had leaders of the world’s seven largest economies enjoying some schnitzel and beer for breakfast, and talking about major issues in the region such as Greece’s sputtering economy and debt, and urging a tough line on Russia’s interference in Ukraine

Several thousand demonstrators carried slogans and banners voicing concerns from climate change and compromised democracies to increasing inequality and predatory banks.  Some Germans are just outraged at the cost of hosting the summit, which rarely produces any agreement.  One German taxpayers’ group believes the acknowledged price tag of 130 Million Euros to be a low ball figure, roughly a third of the true cost of securing the Alpine region for the G7 leaders to eat sausage.

Russia and Qatar could still lose their respective World Cup Tournaments, if evidence of bribery or similar wrongdoing is confirmed.  “Should there be evidence that the awards to Qatar and Russia came only because of bought votes, then the awards could be cancelled,” said Domenico Scala of FIFA’s audit and compliance committee to the Swiss newspaper Sonntagszeitung, noting that “until today, the respective evidence has not been provided”.  US prosecutors indicted 14 current and former FIFA officials for allegedly accepting US$150 Million in bribes over a 24-year period.

The BBC is reporting that US$10 Million was sent on behalf of South Africa to bank accounts controlled by FIFA official Jack Warner, who has since left the world football governing body.  The dough was meant to be used for social programs, but the BBC reports that documents suggest Warner used the payment for cash withdrawals, personal loans and to launder money.  South Africa denies paying bribes.

South Korean health officials say the country is now dealing with 14 more cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), and a fifth patient has died.  In all, there are 64 confirmed cases, making it the third largest outbreak in the world and the biggest outside the Middle East.  The UN World Health Organization says MERS has a 27 percent fatality rate.

Only eleven people are still missing from last week’s passenger ship disaster on the Yangtze River in Hubei Province, China.  The death toll is now 431 lives lost and only 14 known survivors.  Recovery workers held a memorial for the victims on SundayIt’s still unknown what caused the Eastern Star passenger ship with its 456 passengers and crew to flip over, but strong weather is suspected.

New York State in America is offering a reward of US$100,000 for the capture of two convicted murderers who busted out of an upstate maximum-security prison.  David Sweat and Richard Matt somehow got access to power tools, cutting through steel rear walls of their cell, climbing along a two-meter tall catwalk, and out a series of pipe.  They emerged from a sewer cover outside the Clinton Prison in Dannemora.  From there, they could be in the forest making up the 32-kilometers to the Canadian border.  Or they could have gotten into a car and gone anywhere.
