Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputies shot and killed the victim of a crime trying to escape his attacker.  30-year old John Winkler was an aspiring TV producer and had recently landed a behind-the-scenes gig on the show “Tosh 2.0”.  Cops were called to a disturbance at an apartment, and saw Winkler and another man rushing out of the unit, covered in blood, and made the worst judgment call of their careers.  Winkler died in hospital, the other victim was wounded in the leg.  They eventually got into the apartment to arrest the real criminal who was viciously assaulting a third male victim.

The US Congress sent legislation to President Obama to bar Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations from entering the country.  It’s because Hamid Aboutalebi was a part of the Muslim “student” group that seized the US embassy in Tehran in 1979, holding 52 Americans hostage for more than a year.  The White House has told Iran that Aboutalebi’s selection is “not viable” – And it’s not clear if Obama intends to sign the legislation into law.

This comes as Iran and the six major world powers are having trouble coming to an agreement on Iran’s nuclear ambitions.  Negotiators say they will move to the next phase of negotiations to try and bridge some significant gaps in the negotiations.  The US and western powers suspect Iran of developing a nuclear weapons program, Iran insists its research is for medical research and power generation.

A 14-year-old child bride in Northern Nigeria confessed to killing the 35-year old man she was forced to marry, according to police.  Three other people also died and 10 were taken to hospital apparently after eating the same food as the husband, which the young girl laced with rat poison.  The kid is likely to be tried in juvenile court.  Nigerian police are trying to stop parents from forcing children into marriages against their will and the father could be charged.

Just as a TV News crew was talking with a woman in Rio de Janeiro about the Brazilian city’s horrible street crime problem, a thief attempted to steal the gold necklace right off of her neck – in the middle of the interview.  The punk broke the gold chain, but did not get away with it.  Brazil is having a hard time downplaying its reputation as being crime-infested just before the World Cup and the 2016 Olympics, and this video isn’t going to help.

Argentina’s already troubled economy came to a halt with a massive, nationwide strike in protest of inflation and high taxes on middle class earners.  Workers stayed out, shutting down air, train and bus traffic, closing businesses and ports and emptying classrooms.  The strike also stopped all non-emergency hospital attention, left garbage in emptied streets and complicated many other aspects of life.  Many worry that President Cristina Fernandez is squeezing the middle class by raising taxes and fees and cutting subsidies as she seeks funds to appease the unions and other sectors that could threaten her government.
