Two Oklahoma teens accused of murdering Melbournian Christopher Lane entered pleas of “not guilty”.  The judge then ordered 16-year old Chancey Allen Luna and 18-year old Michael DeWayne Jones to stand trial on 18 August.  The two reportedly admit to firing at Chris as he jogged through their neighborhood, but thought the gun was loaded with blanks.  A third defendant, 16-year old James Francis Edwards, Jr. is testifying against his two friends in exchange for lesser charges.

A court in Mumbai convicted four men in the gang rape of a photojournalist last year.  The 22-year old victim was on assignment to take pictures of an abandoned factory when five men attacked her.  The fifth suspect will be tried as a juvenile later; the four convicted men will be sentenced later today.  It was a high profile case as India woke up to its horrible sexual assault problem, recording a rape every 22-minutes.

South African Olympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius is selling his home where he shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp last year.  He needs to raise funds for his defense at his murder trial, in progress in Pretoria.  Pistorius maintains the shooting was an accident, prosecutors say it was intentional murder.  The price tag on the large home in a gated community is roughly A$500,000.

South Africa’s main opposition party is moving to impeach President Jacob Zuma, after a watchdog’s report showed that he spent as much as A$30 Million on posh upgrades to his private home in the name of state security.  It will be up to prosecutors to decide on whether to file charges.

Hundreds of Greek pensioners took to the streets of Athens for a second day to call for a public health system.  Their meager pensions are not enough to pay for doctors, and many are living hand to mouth or worse.  In the sixth year of the recession, overall unemployment is a record 28 percent, and youth unemployment stands at 60 percent.

Notorious anti-immigrant Dutch politician Geert Wilders stirred up a hornet’s nest for leading a crown in a chant against Moroccans.  “More or fewer?” he asked the crowd, who replied “Free Barabas!”  Oops, I meant they replied, “Fewer!  Fewer!  Fewer!” and why would anyone want to be part of an intolerant mob?  Dutch Moroccans, of which there are hundreds of thousands, are filing hate speech complaints with police and filing lawsuits.  Usually, I try not to break Godwin’s Law, but Association for Dutch Moroccans Chairman Ahmed Charifi said,“It raises images of a man in the 1930s with a moustache in front of a microphone.”  Yep.  Meanwhile, a member of Wilders’ ironically-named, eurosceptic, anti-Islam Freedom Party quit in disgust and will keep his seat as an independent.

Anti-Gay extremist minister Fred Phelps is dead in Kansas, USA.  His virulently anti-Gay Westboro Baptist Church achieved notoriety by picketing some 53,000 public events – from Lady Gaga concerts to the funerals of US Troops – carrying signs reading “God Hates Fags” and ”Thank God for Dead Soldiers.”  Satan could not be reached for comment about his new roommate, but is believed to have readied a special pitchfork just for the occasion.

The Pentagon is refocusing its planned aid for Ukraine on non-lethal support, instead of weaponry.  Ukraine's government has put its heavily outnumbered and outgunned forces on alert for an invasion from Russia, however Washington now wants to avoid antagonizing Moscow after its support for the Maidan protests seems to have backfired.  Just a little.

The first European to win a Japanese Sumo tournament has retired.  Karoyan Ando, known by his ring name Kotooshu, tearfully announced he has reached his physical limit and no longer possesses the energy to continue wrestling.  And seriously, the guy was fighting at champion “Ozeki” level a year ago but dropped out of the current tournament with a 1-10 losing record.  Instead of returning to Bulgaria and herding yaks, he’ll stay in Japan, coach younger Sumo wrestlers, and be taller than everyone else.
