Actor Tom Laughlin is dead, he’s famous for the “Billy Jack” movies of the 1970s in which a half-Indian Vietnam War Veteran uses his Green Beret and Martial Arts training to battle small town bigots.  You might recall the scene in which Billy uses his right foot to whomp that guy on the face, and there wasn’t a damn thing that guy could do about it.  The film's theme song, “One Tin Soldier (The Legend of Billy Jack),” performed by Coven, was a top 40 hit in 1971.  Made almost completely outside the Hollywood studios, blazed a trail for today’s independence filmmakers.  Laughlin died of complications from pneumonia last week at age 82.
