Film director Woody Allen is responding to allegations he sexually abused his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow, releasing a statement to The Hollywood Reporter calling them “untrue and disgraceful”.  Yesterday, the New York Times published an open letter from the 28-year old Farrow detailing horrific abuse and chastising Hollywood for exacerbating her torment by “turning a blind eye” to Allen’s alleged crimes.  Named specifically in the letter, Cate Blanchett and Alec Baldwin refused to comment.

The emaciated sailor who washed ashore on an atoll in the Marshall Island is begging to go back to Mexico.  The man, identified only as “Jose Ivan”, says he was adrift in the Pacific since late 2012 on an ill-fated shark fishing trip in which his partner died.  Mexico’s closest diplomatic facility is in Indonesia, and representatives from there are heading to the Marshall Islands to interview him.

As many as 90 people were killed by “barrel bombs” dropped by Syrian government forces onto a rebel held area in Aleppo.  The rebel-friendly Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says most of the dead were civilians.  The Syrian civil war will have lasted three years next month, and more than 100,000 people have been killed.

Kenyan forces say they stormed a mosque in the coastal city of Mombasa because young men were being radicalized there.  The Masjid Musa mosque flew the flag of the Somali Al-Qaeda-linked Islamist group al-Shabab, and had recruited there in the past.  At least 100 people were arrested and a few people were killed in the melee.  Al-Shabab seized the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi last September, killing 67 people.

French and African Union troops have retaken a key town in the Central African Republic from the Muslim Seleka rebels.  The Seleka had massed in the town of Sibut, 180 kilometers north of the Capital Bangui, and there were serious concerns they were planning to overthrow the transitional government appointed last month.

The Tungurahua volcano in Ecuador erupted several times over the weekend, sending ash thousands of meters into the air.  Downwind is a major tourist area Banos de Agua Santa.  It comes on the heels of a massive eruption at Indonesia's Mount Sinabung, which killed at least 16 people.

Europe’s tallest building to be brought down by controlled demolition is a pile of dust.  The former AfE Tower was erected in 1972 as part of the University of Frankfurt in Frankfurt am Main in western Germany.  Some 950 kilograms of explosives were inserted into 1,500 holes drilled in the 32-story, 50,000-ton skyscraper in order to destroy it.
