The Group of Seven major industrialized nations late Sunday condemned Russia's incursion into Ukraine’s Crimea Peninsula, and canceled preparations for the G8 summit that includes Russia and had been scheduled to take place in Sochi in June.  European Union foreign ministers are due to meet in emergency session in Brussels on Monday.

North Korea fired two more missiles into the sea off of its east coast, according to the South’s defense ministry.  It’s an apparent sign of displeasure over the annual joint military exercises with the US and South Korea forces, which Pyongyang says is dress rehearsal for invasion.  Pyongyang also test-fired four similar missiles late last week.

North Korea will free and then deport an elderly missionary originally from Australia.  75-year old John Short was arrested last month for distributing religious materials while he viewed historic sites with a tour group.  Pyongyang’s state-run news agency said Short had admitted breaking North Korean law and apologized.  It said he was being released partly in consideration of his age.  Short spends most of his time at his Christian bookstore in Hong Kong.

Seven tuna fishers are missing after a Japanese fishing boat caught fire in waters 400 Kilometers off Japan's Shikoku Island in western Japan.  A Japan Coast Guard helicopter spotted the smoke and flames from the vessel late Sunday.  The fate of the two Japanese and 5 Indonesian crewmembers is unclear.  The boat was scheduled to return to port at Wakayama on Tuesday.

Hundreds of thousands of ultra-Orthodox Jews held a mass prayer to protest Israel’s proposed law that ends their automatic exemption from military service.  It’s expected to pass the Knesset in the next few weeks.  The men and teens in black hats and coats blocked intersections throughout Jerusalem.

It’s been a gruesome weekend in Nigeria - Twin car-bomb blasts at a bustling marketplace killed at least 51 people in the northeast area that is home to the Boko Haram Islamist separatist group.  Boko Haram is also suspected of killing 39 people in a nearby village in an attack using guns, knifes, and setting fire to buildings.

Starting in 2015, the Disney Company will end its sponsorship of the Boy Scouts of America, because of Scouting’s ban on Gay troop leaders.  The Hollywood studio and theme park giant provides funding to local troops and packs.  Unlike Scouts Australia which says it always had a non-discrimination policy, the US version banned openly gay youth members until January of this year and still bans LGBT adult leaders.

Gigja Einarsdottir of Iceland and her 4-year old daughter Embla found a little foal that got separated from its mom.  Eventually the equine family was reunited, but not before Embla became friends with her new hoofed pal Brogi.
