Scotland braces for bad news after a helicopter crashes into a popular Glasgow pub – A passenger plane goes missing in Africa – Fire guts an architectural landmark in South America – Americans go nuts on Black Friday – Germany arrests an alleged cannibal cop.

“Given an incident of this scale we must all prepare ourselves for the likelihood of fatalities,” the warning from Scotland First Minister Alex Salmond, after a police helicopter has crashed into a pub along the River Clyde in Glasgow.  Officials say several people have been hurt at The Clutha pub, a well-established Glasgow establishment that would have been very crowded with more than a hundred people on a Friday night. 

A passenger plane with 34 people aboard has gone missing after taking off from Mozambique’s capital en route to Angola.  Mozambique Airlines officials say there are signs Flight TM470 landed somewhere near the Angola border near Namibia, a region is sparsely populated and covered with wetlands and dense forests.

Firefighters in Sao Paulo are battling a big fire in the Latin American Memorial, a landmark building by the late, great 20th century architect Oscar Niemeyer.  It was empty at the time the fire broke out and no members of the public were hurt, but nine firefighters were injured.  Flames first swept through a 1,600-seat auditorium in the massive arts and cultural center.

Amateur video has emerged of this week’s crane collapse at a World Cup stadium in Sao Paulo.  Two workers were killed and the stadium was damaged, leading to doubts about weather Brazil will be ready to host the games next year.  A union is alleging that a safety engineer at the site reportedly warned his supervisors that the crane was not on steady ground but was brushed aside.

German cops arrested a 55-year old police officer on suspicion of killing a man and possibly eating the man’s flesh.  Parts of the victim’s body were found in the Erz Mountains in eastern Germany.  Investigators believe that the two men met via an Internet site for cannibalism fetishists – So think twice before telling someone, “Bite me!”  Especially in Germany, because this is the second case of cannibalism to hit the headlines in recent years.

Embattled Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is ruling out calling an early election, following six days of anti-government street protests.  She says the country is not calm enough for polls.  A former opposition party lawmaker is leading the protests, which have sought to force her ouster through occupying government buildings, and he is refusing to talk with the government.

Thousands staged fresh protests in Kiev over the Ukraine government’s refusal to sign a political and trade agreement with the European Union.  The protesters accuse the government of buckling to pressure from Moscow and killing their dream of a freer, more prosperous nation.  EU officials say they will not tolerate Russian interference in relations with former Soviet republics.

A teenager is dead after falling asleep at the wheel, returning from an early morning Black Friday sale in South Carolina.  Black Friday is the uniquely American event that follows their national Thanksgiving holiday in which they attempt to club each other to death like baby harp seals in order to get their gravy-stained hands on the best deals on shoddy Chinese-made overstock at the regional big box stores.  At least nine other people were shot, stabbed, beaten, or otherwise manhandled by their fellow man, because HDTV was on sale.
