Speaker Bronwyn Bishop has cancelled a tax-payer funded voyage to New York City as the controversy over her questionable travel expenses rages.  The trip to the United States for an international summit of parliamentary speakers in at the end of August had been planned before the current row, but it had not yet been sent to PM Tony Abbott, who would have to be completely daft to approve it under the current climate.  Bishop's office is refusing to comment on reports of yet another egregious compo:  A $6,000 private plane ride from Sydney to Nowra last year, to attend two seniors' forums and two fundraisers for local Liberal MP Ann Sudmalis.  The distance is only 160 kilometers.

When Parliament resumes on 10 August, Bronwyn Bishop will almost immediately face a no confidence motion.  Palmer United Party leader Clive Palmer and Independent MP Andrew Wilkie will bring it.  Wilkie says Bronwyn is "undoubtedly a serial abuser" of parliamentary entitlements, is "entirely unfit" to serve as speaker, and "must step down immediately from the position and repay every cent".  Labor already stated its intention to show no respect to the Speaker's chair as long as it is filled by Bishop.

The apparent new leader of the Afghanistan Taliban released an audio recording that rejects the peace process with teh Afghan government and vows to continue the extremist group's insurgency.  Last week, news emerged that long time leader Mullah Omar had actually been dead for two years, followed by the appointment of a new leader, Mullah Mansour.  But not all Taliban approve of the decision, and claim the decision goes against "sharia law".  It casts doubt on the unity of the Taliban as at least one faction seeks peace with Kabul.

Israeli Defense Forces killed two Palestinian teenagers in protests following the funeral of a Palestinian baby burned to death, allegedly by Israeli settlers.  One 17-year old was cut down by an IDF sniper after allegedly throwing a petrol bomb at apolice box near Ramallah; the other, also aged 17, was among a group that allegedly rushed the border fence in northern Gaza

The burning death of 18-month old Ali Saad Dawabsheh is prompting calls for the government to get tough with settler violence.  The IDF already labelled the arson attack as "Jewish Terrorism".   Opposition Leader Isaac Herzog says Israel must treat it the same way as it treats Palestinian violence.  "I would label as terrorist entities, The Lehava organization, the Marzelites, and La Familia," wrote Herzog on social media, referring to two ultra-right organizations and a racist football hooligan group respectively. "I would consider destroying the homes of these terrorists.  Everything that applies to Islamic terror is applicable here too," Herzog added.

Three members of Osama Bin Laden's family and their Jordanian pilot were killed when their private jet overshot the runway at Blackbushe Airport in Hampshire, UK and crashed in flames.  The terrorist Bin Laden came from a wealthy family of more than 50 siblings, and it's pretty doubtful that these folks on in ill-fated holiday flight to England had any contact with him before his killing by US Navy Seals in 2011.  The Bin Laden family disowned Osama in 1994.
