More medical troubles for Nelson Mandela; A long-time fugitive and sex offender will likely be extradited from the UK to Australia;  And the US military’s inability to deal with sex assaults in its ranks claims a 2-star General.

Former South African President Nelson Mandela is in serious but stable condition in a Pretoria Hospital.  It’s the 95-year-old’s fourth hospital stay in recent months.  He’s rumored to be suffering pneumonia.

Thousands hit the streets in Ankara, Turkey, in complete defiance of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s call to an end to the unprecedented demonstrations against him.  Cops responded with water cannons and tear gas, and Turkey’s allies are getting nervous about police brutality.  Erdogan is so far refusing to call early elections.

A suspected sex offender is ending his legal battle against extradition to New South Wales from England, to face charges of raping a schoolgirl 40 years ago.  71-year old Geoffrey Woodward was living just south of Newcastle in the UK.  The former soldier worked as an industrial radiographer in Australia when the crimes occurred in the mid-1970s.

Two US Soldiers and an American civilian were killed in an insider attack in Afghanistan.  A man wearing an Afghan army uniform opened fire on them in the eastern part of the country near the border with Pakistan.

Seven people were killed in a US drone strike in northwest Pakistan, the first such attack since Nawaz Shariff took over as prime minister, demanding that the US stop with the drone attacks.  The target region is a Taliban and al Qauda stronghold.  Last month, President Obama called for more oversight of the program and stricter targeting rules.

The commanding general of US Army forces in Japan is under suspension for allegedly failing to properly investigate a sexual assault complaint.  The Pentagon says there are no allegations of sexual misconduct against Major General Michael Harrison.   It’s the latest on a series of embarrassing assault cases that have raised questions about the military's ability to deal with the problem.

A California judge is ordering an investigation into the “health, education and welfare” of Paris Jackson following the suicide attempt by the 15-year old daughter of the late “King of Pop” Michael Jackson.  Paris reportedly won’t be returning to her expensive private high school, where she was allegedly bullied over the extravagances of her famous family’s lifestyles.

Authorities in China say a “suicidal man” started the fire on a crowded commuter bus that killed 47 people last week.  They found a suicide note in the home of Chen Shuizong after he was killed in the blaze.
