Police in Argentina rescued a 15-year-old girl who had been starved, beaten and kept on a chain in a garage for nine years by her foster parents, who are charged with numerous offenses.  The girl was discovered by one of her biological sisters, who notified authorities.  She weighed only 20 kilos and had been fed only bread and water in her captivity.  Her only company had been that of a dog and a monkey, and she said she was beaten with a belt if she tried to eat the leftover kibble thrown to the pets.  The foster parents practiced some screwball cult religion called “San la Muerte”.

A Japanese parliamentary committee is urging the government to investigate all options to continue whaling, including “walking out of the (international whaling) convention”.  The Fisheries Committee is made up of 40 (reactionary) lawmakers from the lower house who want Japan’s “research” whaling program redrawn to circumvent last month’s ruling from the International Court of Justice in The Hague telling Japan to end its Southern Ocean whale hunt.  And then they held a whale meat buffet, apparently just to be jerks about it.

It said the ruling earlier this month by the International Court of Justice that banned Japan's research whaling programme in the Southern Ocean was "truly regrettable" but "does not necessarily prevent Japan's whaling, which is a unique tradition and culture".
