Iran’s new leader spells out his country’s nuclear plans – A bus driver ignores all the warnings and drives into the side of a speeding train – And cops want to know why they weren’t allowed to stop a massacre in progress.

Iran's new President Hassan Rouhani told America’s NBC News that his country would never build nuclear weapons.  Iran is under international economic sanctions and intense scrutiny for its nuclear program, which it insists is for energy but which critics suspect can build a nuclear weapon.

The US Justice Department is seizing control of a New York City skyscraper that was owned by a shadow corporation for the Iranian government.  Owning a prime piece of midtown Manhattan is in violation of international economic sanctions on Iran.  The 650 Fifth Avenue building hosts a lot of offices, as well as Juicy Couture and Godiva Chocolate shops and a Chase bank branch on the street level.

Washington, DC police are investigating their own actions during the massacre at the Navy Yard.  A SWAT team was reportedly ordered to “stand down” by superiors upon arrival at the building where 34-year old gunman Aaron Alexis killed twelve people.  He was killed by police officers that eventually did storm the building.  Some capital police have anonymously complained they would have been able to save lives if they had been allowed to go in earlier.

Six people were killed when a passing commuter train ripped the front end of a double-decker bus in the Canadian capital Ottawa during the morning rush.  Witnesses said the bus went through barrier at the train tracks, despite the passengers screaming, “Stop, stop!”  The train was already speeding through the crossing when the bus hit its side.  The train derailed, more than 30 people were hurt.

The International Criminal Court in The Hague is warning Kenyan media and bloggers not to reveal the identity of witnesses at the trial of Deputy President William Ruto.  This comes after a local Kenyan newspaper published the name and photo of a female witness.  Ruto is accused of inciting murder in the aftermath of the highly contested 2007 Presidential elections, charges he adamantly denies.

An American pilot who twice had his license pulled in the States killed his 18-year old translator and likely himself while duplicating stunts from the movie “Top Gun” in China.  David G. Riggs, the translator, and Riggs’ homemade airplane crashed into a lake.  For whatever reason, Riggs had been hired to fly at the International Flight Conference & General Aviation Products Expo, which is set to open Friday in Shenyang.  In America he was grounded for buzzing the famed Santa Monica pier in Los Angeles and selling rides in an unapproved aircraft.

The verdict in the trial of fallen China Politburo member Bo Xilai will be announced Sunday.  The longtime rival to the guy who eventually won the sweepstakes to become China’s president is widely expected to be found guilty of corruption and sentenced to anywhere from 15 years to life in prison.  The death penalty is not expected.

Maybe this is real or maybe it’s an awesome hoax, but it sure looks like someone managed to get a camera on an eagle’s back as it soared above the Mer de Glace in the French Alps near Mont Blanc.  I don’t know how they got the eagle to give it back.

I hope Malala Yousafzai’s father know how to build a trophy shelf.  The 16-year old was honored by Amnesty International as an Ambassador of Conscience, along with US singer and social justice advocate Harry Belafonte.  Malala called for “free, compulsory education everywhere, for every child “ in the world.  She didn’t get to stick around for too long at the ceremony in Dublin, because she had to get back onto a plane for Birmingham, UK:  It was a school night, and in between leading the world to educate children, she has to squeeze in her lessons.
