US President Barack Obama on Thursday night will make a live address to unveil his plans to reform America’s broken immigration system.  Since the republican-obstructed congress is not cooperating, he’ll likely use his executive authority to expand a plan allowing young adults who were brought to the US illegally as children to stay and work.  That will cover as many as five million undocumented workers.  The best part about it is, it’ll really piss off the republicans.

The Cuban doctor who caught Ebola while fighting the epidemic in Sierra Leone is in stable condition and his fever is down.  43-year old Dr. Felix Baez cannot recall any mistake in procedure that could have led to him catching the virus from a patient.  The husband and father of two is due to be evacuated to Geneva later on Thursday.  Cuba has dedicated 165 doctors and nurses to fight Ebola in Sierra Leone, with another 53 in Liberia and 38 in Guinea.

The UN World Health Organization reports the death toll from the West African Ebola Epidemic has topped 5,420 out of 15,145 cases in eight countries – the vast majority of which were in Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia.  The latter nation continues to be the worst-hit with 2,934 deaths, but the rate of infection has slowed.  WHO said Wednesday that a total of 568 healthcare workers were known to have contracted the virus (including the afore mentioned Dr. Baez), and 329 of them had died.

Motown legend Jimmy Ruffin is dead at age 78.  He’s known for a string of hit singles from the 1960s through the ‘80s, starting with “What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted”, “I’ve Passed This Way Before”, “Gonna Give Her All the Love I've Got”, and more.  He was also the elder brother of David Ruffin, the late singer of The Temptations from the “Classic Five” era.  Music links!

Perhaps it’s not a beautiful day for U2 singer Bono, who was really, really banged up in a bicycling spill in New York City’s Central Park.  Doctors say Bono broke his arm in six places and fractured his eye socket, hand, and shoulder blade.  Bono underwent two surgeries: a five-hour operation on Sunday repaired the arm with three metal plates and 18 screws; Monday’s operation focused on his left hand.  Doctors say a full recovery is expected, although it’s going to take time and a lot of physical therapy for that to happen.  U2 was planning to tour on the group’s latest album; that seems doubtful right now.

Once America’s favorite TV dad, Bill Cosby is quickly becoming a show biz pariah after decades-old rape allegations have resurfaced and caught the attention of a new generation.  NBC pulled out of a sitcom development deal, the TV Land cable TV rerun network quietly pulled his 1980s classic “The Cosby Show” from rotation (goodbye residuals), Netflix cancelled a planned comedy special.  Appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman and the Queen Latifah Show are also off.  Three women came forward this week accusing Coz of slipping them drugs and raping them.  The 77-year old Cosby has never been charged with a crime, and his lawyers strenuously deny any wrongdoing.  However, his case is damaged by the reappearance of an old comedy routine in which he jokes about drugging women and raping them.  Whoops.  Nothing ever disappears on the Internet.

Police in Japan arrested a 67-year old millionaire who allegedly came about her fortune the old-fashioned way – through murdering her husband, boyfriends, and business partners and then collecting the insurance and other inheritances.  Six men in the life of Chisako Kakehi of Kyoto died of cyanide poisoning.  “We suspect she did it for money,” a police investigator said without giving details of the amount involved.  Kakehi is worth about A$7.9 Million.
