Both Black Boxes from Flight QZ8501 are now recovered – hackers embarrass the US military – We now know what it takes to make David Cameron choke on his porridge, and Rupert Murdoch’s network made it happen – And a lot more in your CareerSpot World News Briefs:

Indonesian officials say that divers have successfully retrieved AirAsia Flight QZ8501’s cockpit voice recorder from the floor of the Java Sea, where it was lodged under some debris from the crashed flight.  A day earlier, they recovered the flight data recorder.  The devices will be analyzed in hopes of definitively proving what caused the Airbus A320-300 to crash into the Java Sea when it was flying from Surabaya in Indonesia to Singapore on 28 December with 162 passengers and crew aboard.

Police in China’s restive Xinjiang province have shot and killed six people who authorities say were attempting to detonate a bomb.  Local media say one man carried the device towards police, who shot him before he could set it off – police they shot dead five more people who tried to detonate it after the first man died.  The Xiniang region has been rocked by violence by Muslim Uighur separatists who resent Han Chinese domination and wish to carve out their own state of “East Turkistan”.

The US Military Central Command (Centcom) Twitter and YouTube accounts are temporarily suspended after hackers claiming to support Islamic State (IS) gained control of them.  Most of the messages seemed childish at best, with vague declarations of “love” for IS, and a warning, “American soldiers, we are coming, watch your back”.  Although some corporate news operations gave breathless and sensational reports of the hack, nothing in the way of sensitive information was stolen.

The Nigerian military is disputing claims of thousands of civilians killed by the terrorist group Boko Haram in and around Baga town on the northern frontier, and downplayed the number of dead at around 150 – with a number of militants among the dead.  In fairness, the Nigerian military has been dismissive and less than trustworthy with facts and figures, and has frequently claimed combat victories over Boko Haram, only to be proven wrong within days.  Amnesty International says up to 2,000 people were killed in Boko Haram’s rampage in Baga town.  Meanwhile, Cameroon is claiming to have killed from 150 to 300 Boko Haram fighters in a cross-border attack.  We’ll see where that goes.

Interpol has put former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich on an international wanted list at the behest of Kiev.  Ukraine alleged Yanukovich and his former finance minister Yuri Kolobov committed embezzlement and financial wrongdoing while in office.  Former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov was also added to the list, although the charges are not clear.

Fidel Castro is totally not dead, according to a report from Venezuela’s state-run Telesur Network.  The 88-year old former Cuban President has not been seen in public for more than a year.  But, he supposedly sent a letter to Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona during a visit to Havana.  Maradona read it on T and said, “I’m very happy to know he’s well.”  Did Castro write a letter?  There is considerable speculation in Western intelligence communities that the old guy probably has dementia, and that his columns that appear in the Cuban Communist Party newspaper Granma have been ghost-written for quite some time.

And now, some #FoxNewsFacts

A guest’s incredibly ill-informed and Islamophobic comments made on Rupert Murdoch’s American propaganda network Fox News have drawn widespread ridicule.  And now they’ve made UK Prime Minister David Cameron choke on his porridge.  In a live interview, terrorism “expert” (ha ha ha ha ha) Steven Emerson claimed the West Midlands city of Birmingham was completely Muslim, and non-Muslims dare not go there.  In fact, it’s only about 20 percent Muslim and pretty safe as far as the crime rate goes.  Emerson and the dimwitted host also claimed that Muslim Shariah law police roam London, beating people who aren’t Muslim enough.

“When I heard this, frankly, I choked on my porridge and I thought it must be April Fools’ day,” Cameron said. “This guy’s clearly a complete idiot.”

Cameron’s not the only one, as Emerson’s apologies were not enough to stop the momentum of the hashtag #FoxNewsFacts (this is a great one) used by people heaping their scorn and sarcasm on the kind of garbage that gets reported on Murdoch’s outlet all the damned time.
