The grueling cross examination of Olympic sprinter and accused killer Oscar Pistorius resumes in Pretoria.  On Monday, prosecutor Gerrie Nel accused Pistorius of staging fake emotional outbursts on the witness stand to mask his difficulty in answering questions.  Nel has repeatedly told Pistorius that his account of the events on Valentine’s Day 2013 is “improbable”.  Pistorius says he shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp mistakenly thinking she was a burglar, the prosecutor says it was deliberate murder.

Canada is suspending funding for the Commonwealth Secretariat over alleged human rights abuses by Sri Lanka, the organization’s current chair.  Ordinarily, Canada would contribute $10 Million per year for two years.  Prime Minister Stephen Harper boycotted the Commonwealth summit last year in Colombo, Sri Lanka, because of concerns about the government's human rights record.

Italian populist politician Beppe Grillo is in hot water for an anti-Semitic blog posting, which showed a photo of Auschwitz’s gate with the words changed to sarcastically refer to a shadowy organization of Italian business and political figures.  Grillo’s insurgent “5 Star Movement” came out of nowhere to become Italy’s third largest political party last year.

A body discovered 12 meters up a tree is that of a man who went missing three years ago.  21-year-old Jurij Sliachtecov was last seen in Bournemouth, UK in April 2011.  Last month, a dog emerged from a bush at nearby golf club, with a human arm in its mouth.  Dorset police searched the area and found the rest of the remains high up in the tree, in an inaccessible place.  His friends assumed he had gone back to his native Lithuania three years ago, because his passport was missing.

Pakistani police are hunting the second of two really, really weird brothers who allegedly dug up dead people from the graveyard to eat them.  Neighbors complained of the stench from the home they shared, and 30-year old Mohammad Farman was instantly arrested.  His 35-year old brother Mohammad Arif is on the run.  The two were let out of prison only last year after serving time for the same offense – cops believe the cannibal brothers dug up as many as 100 rotting human bodies to eat over the years.

Geez, that was disgusting.  How about a puppy wagging its tail because it gets to run around on the couch?

Officials in Chile say it could take up to 20 days to extinguish the bush fire that crept into the port city of Valparaiso.  At least 13 people were killed – revised down from 16 – and thousands of homes have been destroyed.  The city is built on a series of steep hills, separated by narrow winding streets containing wooden structures – all making the job of firefighters very, very difficult.

Venezuela’s military admits “some excesses” during weeks of political unrest that have left 41 people dead from both sides of the current strife.  Command Chief Vladimir Padrino says 97 officers and police are under investigation for alleged “cruelty and torture”.  But the general stressed these were less than one percent of all officers.

An American schoolteacher has lost her job, after ordering a “hit” on a student.  An investigation by the Port St. Lucie County, Florida School Board found that veteran teacher Dru Dehart encouraged six 8th grade students to beat up 7th grader Radravious Williams, after he disrespected her.  The older boys, up to 15 years old, ganged up on the 7th grader, as the older woman taunted him.  Oh yeah, the best part:  Dru Dehart taught “Critical Thinking”.  Radravious’ parents are planning a lawsuit, and I’m wondering why police aren’t involv—oh yeah, Florida.
