The two suspects in the murder of UK Soldier Lee Rigby in London have both been remanded in custody after making separate court appearances.  28-year old Michael Adebolajo held a Koran and stated he wished to be known as Mujahid Abu Hamza. 

A suicide bomber in Afghanistan killed 13 people including 10 children.  They kids were believed to be younger than age 12.  They had just been let out of class for lunch when the bomber attacked a military convoy passing through the market in the Samkani District near the Pakistan border.

China’s President Xi Jinping is now the first head of state from his country to visit Trinidad and Tobago off South America.  Xi and his Caribbean counterpart discussed Trinidad and Tobago’s large oil and natural gas resources, and China’s growing energy consumption.  Xi visits Costa Rica, Mexico, and the United States on this trip.

Japan’s Prime Minister says Africa will be the engine for world economic growth in the coming decades.  PM Shinzo Abe spoke at the end of a three-day conference in Yokohama on African economic development.  Japan pledged more than A$32 Billion in aid around Africa, including money to fight militant Islamists.

Almost a thousand workers at Internet retailer Amazon’s German locations staged a strike for higher wages on Monday.  Critics say Amazon pays much lower than the prevailing wage at other mail order and retail firms.  Amazon recently was forced to fire its security subcontractor after it was learned it employed neo-nazis to monitor its workers, largely immigrants from poorer European countries.

No. 10 is denying it held crisis talks over the weekend regarding the unraveling of a secret affair between two members of PM David Cameron’s circle of advisors.  The tabs are not saying who was involved, other than that both parties are “middle aged”.  The Mail on Sunday claims the bombshell has the potential to “blow the political agenda out of the water.”  ‘Guess we’ll have to stay tuned?

The Duke of Edinburgh on Monday night fell ill and had to withdraw from a gala reception for the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) at St James’s Palace.  He was expected to attend Tuesday’s official service to mark Queen Elizabeth’s 60 years on the throne.

America’s oldest Senator has died of complications of pneumonia.  Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey was 89 years old.  Lautenberg was the last World War II veteran in the Senate.  He became a multimillionaire in business, and as a Democratic lawmaker championed public transportation and gun control.
